Freddy Curiél is an Italian Architect and Landscape Designer from Trieste, with expertise in different fields of design at different scales. He started his bachelor architecture studies at IUAV (Venice, Italy) and KArch Royal Academy (Copenhagen, Denmark). Later he gained his master in Architecture and Landscape Planning at Politecnico di Milano graduating with Honours, developing his thesis at TU Delft, Chair of Urbanism and Landscape.
Since 2006 he collaborated in several architecture studios in Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany and Hong Kong. Based in Shenzhen since 2011, he carries out research and academic activities parallel to his design practice at Lapis Bureau.
In 2013 he has been appointed as the Co-Curator of the Italian Pavilion during the UABB 2013 in Shenzhen, and ever since he has been involved in several cultural activities and exhibitions dedicated to design within the Creative Community in South China. He was appointed as the Executive Production Manager for the latest Biennale exhibition inside Futian Railway Station for UABB2019, curated by Carlo Ratti.
Freddy Curiél is the founder and creative director of Lapis Bureau, a creative design agency based in Shenzhen that provides Landscape, Architecture, Products and Interiors Solutions through a wide range of design proposals, with a wide range of international clients in their portfolio such as Luxottica, Cassina, Giorgetti, Tencent, MoMA Design Store and many others.
In 2012 he won the Young Professional Award for Sustainable Ideas, thanks to his visionary proposal for a sustainable management of the entire Pearl River Delta. In 2019 he is awarded European Designer of the Year at the World Youth Design Forum, and lately Lapis Bureau was appointed winner of Luxury Lifestyle Design in 2021, and their projects are widely published internationally.
Freddy is proactive invited speaker and lecturer, as well as a jury member in several international awards, and is also one of the founders behind #TheSignR, a vlog and media channel dedicated to the creative community of the Greater Bay Area.
