Matteo Cainer is an architect, curator, and educator based in London and Milan. He is the Principal of Matteo Cainer Architecture, co-founder of the Confluence Institute in France, and curator of Architecture Whispers. With a background that includes working with esteemed international practices such as Eisenman Architects in New York City, Coop Himmelb(l)au in Vienna, and Arata Isozaki Associati in Milan, Matteo has an impressive portfolio of projects and experiences.
He has held various roles such as Assistant Director for the 9th International Architecture Biennale – METAMORPH, Curator of the London Architecture Biennale – CHANGE, and Associate Professor at the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, where he also created and directed the ‘Pavillon Spéciale’ series. In 2013, he co-founded and co-directed the Confluence Institute for Innovation and creative strategies in Architecture in Lyon with Odile Decq. Matteo has also been recognized for his work through awards, publications in books and magazines, and exhibitions in prestigious venues like the Venice Architecture Biennale, The Royal Academy in London, the Pisa Architecture Biennale and the Biennale dello Stretto.
His contributions to the field of architecture and design extend beyond his professional practice, as he teaches and lectures and is jury member in various universities around the world. Matteo Cainer has also written, and edited a number of books and articles in the field of architecture and design and his studio was selected as one of the 25 significant emerging international practices at the London Architecture Festival.
