Entry Description

This project explores a bioremediation strategy for an abandoned brownfield, the Fisk Coal Power Plant in Chicago, IL, by deploying phytoremediation over a series of temporal phases. The goal of the project is to turn a contaminated site into a public park that provides a vibrant new cultural facility while preserving the historical aspects of the site. The project incorporates a variety of cultural and educational programs with the intention of creating public awareness about urban environmental preservations. This design strategy can be used for others sites in the USA and elsewhere.
