Werkstätte is a typographic project inspired by the Vienna Secession and Vienna Workshop Movements. With this project I aimed to revive forgotten/hidden hand lettered type from publications and posters created by artists of these movements. Based off of the hand lettered type, I designed five typefaces each consisting of three fonts. To showcase the different typefaces as a collection, I designed a specimen book, which I printed using photo-lithography. Each font is reduced down to uppercase A-Z, a period and a hyphen. The specimen book is bilingual, written in both English and German and features the manifesto of the Wiener Werkstätte, "Arbeitsprogramm". The four center pages consist of patterns to offer a break/transition into the second half of the book. The title "WEKSTÄTTE” is somewhat hidden, displayed as large letters across subsequent pages and divided between the front and back of the book, reminiscent of the typefaces' hidden origins.
