Entry Description

Hotel Atlantico was an iconic hotel in the cost of Estoril . It had the most “Atlantic” pool ever with sea water where the high end crowd liked to hang around. Eventually the hotel got dated and slowly abandoned. One year ago it was sadly demolished. An, all new, construction is being built in its place… in that great spot where the waves break. Standing in the pool balcony you can see all the way from Lisbon to Cascais, that great Estoril coast surrounding you. They are now building an apart hotel with 50 ocean view rooms. The promoters asked 4 designers to come up with a concept for the Entrance Hall and Lobby. We were also responsible to design a standard suite and the corridors.
My goal was to give the place as much glamour as possible. I just worked with what was already there all along …The Ocean in all it´s different hues and moods… from a grey dark day when all we see is a deep green, to a beautiful summer day when even the Atlantic has its own turquoise sides. At the same time I wanted the décor to be chic and memorable. And I also wanted to add touches of pure Portuguese feel. Our side walks are all made of basalt and limestone so I took that contrast to all the hotel floors in a tribute to that, so appreciated, Portuguese graft. Most pieces of furniture were designed at our studio and all the upholstery design if from a Portuguese brand. There are rich velvets for the seating and then light linen for the curtains. There are great contrast but there is also a cohesion of concept and form. I wanted this small hotel to become our Atlantic Jewell and I think the project succeeded at that!
