Hidden Bar

The project transforms a century-old shop into a hidden bar with a 1960s grocery store façade and a raw, industrial interior. Rejecting mainstream luxury, the design boldly uses rough scaffolding and recycled materials to create contrast and surprise. The space is divided into three zones: nostalgic storefront, industrial bar area, and quirky restroom/smoking zone. Vintage furniture, neon signs, and unpolished finishes enhance the nostalgic and unconventional feel. The layout prioritizes functionality, while the use of reclaimed materials reflects environmental and social responsibility.

Cosmo Chuah, founder of LAB TWO DESIGN, is a Penang-based interior designer with over 20 years of experience since 2000. His multidisciplinary work spans residential, commercial, and exhibition design, focusing on narrative, materiality, and spatial context. Recognized in both local and international design awards, Cosmo actively engages in design dialogues across Asia. His work reflects a strong commitment to contextual relevance, creating functional and culturally resonant spaces that contribute to Malaysia’s evolving design identity.
