China Academy of Art (CAA) is one of the leading higher education institutions for the arts in China,emphasizing both traditional Chinese and contemporary art practices. The Mengyuan Campus will house CAA's Department of Fundamentals as well as CAA's Affiliated High School, as well as a precious set of Pergamon Altar frieze relief.To address the duality of contemporary and traditional Chinese arts in CAA's pedagogy, the proposal compares between the western and oriental art traditions to translate them to a dual spatial system.
The proposal was completed in a Request For Proposal by CAA.
Minquan Wang, RA, AIA is a sole practitioner and architect at David Chipperfield Architects Shanghai where he is a lead designer and a key figure in cultural practices. His personal works have received multiple honors including the NY Architectural Design Awards, London Design Awards, and the MUSE Design Awards. He previously worked at KPF New York and contributed to several high-profile mixed-use projects. He received his M.Arch at Yale School of Architecture, where he was the recipient of the 2017 H.I.Feldman Prize. He received his B.Arch at Tsinghua University.
