Coexistence

The city I grew up, Shenzhen, has a very unique feature. In the progress that it developed from a village to a city, the primitive villages are kept between the urban settlements, which are called “urban villages”. In my childhood memory, I often walked across the huge city malls while I could see the side of the urban villages from the gap of the walls. I would like more people to know there’re villages hidden behind the modern city, and think about how their future fate would be as a part of urban modernization. It is inspired by the shape of sky seeing through the between of the building.

Chudi Zhang is a graphic designer based in New York City and Shenzhen, China. Having a passion in both illustration and graphic design, Chudi is good at handling works of branding, editorial and packaging. She also dreams of becoming an 2d motion designer, for which she is now studying hard related techniques.
Chudi graduated from School of Visual Arts with a BFA degree in design, and is going to study an MFA degree in design in SVA in September, 2024.
