Catalyst is an adaptive reuse of the Engineering Management Building in the former Charleston Navy base. Originally designed in 1975, the six-story brutalist structure is set on a two-acre site in Charleston, South Carolina. The existing monolithic structure was once a pioneer of its time but has now become a relic of the past. This project aims to be a renaissance of a symbolic building, introducing a new vernacular that ties into the existing form and function. The goal of the project is to not only be an economic catalyst but also introduce high-performance energy systems.
