Entry Description

TypoLA is a hypothetical annual conference that celebrates the profound stories of typography in Los Angeles.

Graffiti and multiracial street culture shaped much of LA typography today. The earliest graffiti in LA were hand-painted by Latino gangs in Blackletter letterforms, a staple part of Mexican culture. As Blackletter grew more prominent, the script was adopted by the surf, punk and hip-hop culture and soon became a representation of Los Angeles.

The TypoLA brand identity nods to this history by utilizing Blacklettering and making sure every large application is reminiscent of a graffi.
