I have created the New York location of Johnny Sánchez in Chelsea Market. The client is Aaron Sanchez, celebrity chef. Sanchez looks up to his mother and grandmother who passed down recipes from generations.
His family is represented through the basketry seen in Sonora, Mexico. The color, shape, and overlapping fixtures play an important role in this project. The spiral forms of the baskets are now translated to wall partitions, bar counters, and ceiling components. As visitors walk through Chelsea Market, the warm ambiance and vibrant music of Johnny Sánchez will welcome them in!
