Entry Description

Sergey Makhno designed an apartment for his family. Authentic Ukrainian elements are combined with a minimalistic Japanese style of wabi-sabi based on the belief that everything imperfect is beautiful.

A rustic penthouse stands in deep contrast with a concrete city landscape. The walls are finished with clay in a technique used for old Ukrainian dwellings, the ceilings are supported by massive oak beams, the ceramic lighting is made personally by Sergey Makhno. Multiple pieces of art make the apartment look like a gallery.

The apartment honors simplicity, authenticity, and modesty.

Bio

Sergey Makhno Architects is a workshop of modern Ukrainian design and architecture that works in three fields: architecture, interior design, and product design.

Meter by meter we create new worlds. With trees growing in a living room and lamps in the size of a man. Where the bathroom can be in a glass box and tiles repeat the form of a bird. We think that things have to amaze. We create art pleasant not only to look at but also to live in.
