In a former garage in the Meatpacking District, STK gracefully blends two concepts into one ? the modern New York steakhouse with a downtown lounge. At the outset of the project, the Client commissioned ICRAVE to create a steakhouse that would appeal to women. The client also wanted to mix elements of theatre with a restaurant experience. To achieve these goals, ICRAVE reinterpreted elements of a traditional steakhouse to lose the overly masculine vibe that has long been the trademark of the genre. For example, the cozy hearth that has been a steakhouse staple for generations is reinterpreted in a 10-foot tall lavender-glass fireplace, while traditional cattle horns have been reborn in a white flowing horn-like sculpture that emerges from above the bar. The use of natural materials contrast with the building?s industrial feel and the main room features a large central lounge furnished with creamy leather banquettes and textured crocodile tiles, surrounded by an elevated dining room for more formal dining. The theatrical lighting scheme was inspired by Robert Wilson?s set designs ? barn door lights illuminate each table, so every guest feels like a star. Smoky mirrors allow patrons to catch a glimpse of the surroundings and hanging Bocci ball lights add an overall sparkle to the room. The 2nd floor houses 4 private dining rooms and the 3rd floor, a banquet hall with seating for 120 people was designed to resemble a Park Avenue loft.
