Neo-Futuristic architect John Portman’s 1987 atrium hotel welcomed the Mandarin Oriental to Singapore. Its previous rendition of a sultry club like interior is reborn with lightness, colour and a sense of the tropics. With fabulous water views, both Marina Bay and the South China Sea, and of course Singapore City, the front of the hotel has changed as has the city. A Royal Suite, Presidential Suite and a dozen additional Suites will take advantage of these incredible views. There is a heightened mix of cultural influences, which support a sense of place.
Established in 1994, DESIGNWILKES redefines modern luxury hospitality by blending heritage with contemporary vision. Each project begins with a reverence for place—collaborating with artisans, reinterpreting traditions, and shaping spaces that balance function with emotional resonance. From sculpted forms to the play of light through crafted screens, our work transforms cultural narratives into timeless experiences, where every detail is designed to inspire, endure, and invite connection.
Recent recognitions include the 2024 Muse Awards Gold Winner and the LIV Hospitality Design Awards. While current commissions continue our exploration of a sense of place, our commitment remains in creating interiors that don’t just impress, but also endure in memory.
