Embedded in the slope of Mount Royal, this welcome pavilion and bell tower transform one of Canada’s most visited pilgrimage sites into a luminous journey of inclusion and reflection. Cast-in-place concrete, local wood, and gabion walls of excavated stone integrate structure and topography into a continuous, barrier-free ascent. The restored 62-bell carillon operates as both guide and architecture-as-acoustic-instrument, while geothermal energy, bioswales, and extensive green roofs advance environmental performance through a design of reverence, accessibility, and calm.
