Entry Description

Ganjeollu is a pavilion at Ganjeolgot, Ulsan's easternmost point, where Korea’s first sunrise meets the sea. Inspired by the traditional nu-gak (elevated pavilion), it combines public utility with a contemplative space for viewing nature. The design follows the site’s slope and curves, creating an open structure integrating wind, light, and views. Seventeen rotating timber sections form a roof shifting from angles to arcs, echoing the land’s flow from mountain to bay. A color system from Ganjeolgot’s sunrise reinforces its identity, making Ganjeollu a landmark linking nature/tradition/design.
