Ensō (‘circle’) is a prominent symbol in Japanese Zen. The ensō reveals a spiritual universe without beginning and end. The Zen circle of enlightenment depicts the transformative experience-perfectly empty while remaining entirely full, endless, effortlessly shining, like the moon-mind of enlightenment.
This project studies the power of light as congregants visit Ensō to comprehend that the self and the other are One, that the conditioned and the unconditioned exist concurrently, and that the absolute and the relative are the same. This realization leads to an inborn wisdom and compassion.
