Rootdown is a bar/café nestled in the newly named Art Lane area of Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong. Referencing the owner's past in American barns, the large wood panels and custom wooden screens create a mostly warm space. With limited indoor seating, the screens were developed to integrate the pedestrian-only path and the adjacent park so that customers could gather outside while still feeling present in the cafe/bar. We added a slopping roof to integrate a fully recessed lighting system, capped off by the large faux skylight which mimics the colors of the sky, further connecting the outdoors.
