Xinjiang's long been home to ancient glaciers that, over millennia, formed natural dams for mountain lakes. However, the recent surge in global temperatures has destabilized these glaciers, placing downstream villages at increasing risk of sudden floods. At the same time, Xinjiang has traditionally suffered from droughts, leaving locals without a reliable source of water. This design project aims to apply principles of biomimicry—drawing inspiration from biological systems—to develop a solution that addresses both water scarcity and the threat of flash floods in a sustainable, integrated way.
