Drones, or UAVs, have transformed aerospace by removing human risk from hazardous air missions. While widely used in civilian sectors, they also support “drone swarm” tactics—deploying masses of small, low-cost drones to overwhelm defenses, as in Ukraine’s “Spider Web Operation” against Russian bombers. To counter this threat, an airport defense system is proposed using existing fire hoses, sensors, and underground piping. It rapidly sprays water through nozzles to form a barrier that blocks drones and disrupts their visual and thermal targeting, protecting aircraft on the ground.
