Entry Description

What if light could reveal the memory of the land?
Time in Soil, a portable table lamp, explores how light can reconnect us with the forgotten dialogue between humans and earth. Formed from New York’s soil—gathered in some iconic scenes in Manhattan—the lamp shade embodies layers of urban memory: red brick, decayed leaves, traces of lives once there. Cast like grains settling in time, its cocktail-glass form captures a quiet moment of gravity and stillness, turning soil into a vessel of time that reflects each viewer’s own memories.

Bio

A Japanese designer based in New York.
Rather than approaching design as a solution that simply seeks “better” functionality or aesthetics, he focuses on the “innovative”—discovering entirely new forms and value systems for products. By weaving universal human sensibilities into both the physical and psychological interactions with objects, he aims to create designs that are not merely future-oriented but that define a timeless and future standard.
