WaToKi” is a Japanese word meaning ‘Wa’ for harmony, bond, and individuality, and ‘Ki’ for the four seasons, vessel, and tree. To” connects them to form a meaningful word. The design of contemporary Japan is created by ambiguously connecting spaces that incorporate traditional Japanese culture such as shoji screens, latticework, tatami mats, and gravel. By manipulating the atrium and ceiling height and interweaving the exterior and interior spaces, we created a space where the line of sight is open. We created a space that feels nostalgic, yet fresh at the same time.
