Entry Description

What is a woven fabric and is there another environmentally friendly way to envelope our vulnerable bodies? By considering this question, I took inspiration from a latex-like, recycled plastic material I played with as a child. The liquid heated at high temperature and cooled to a rubber-like finish that could be manipulated and fused with tulle, wool and natural color dye to create new vibrant materials.Alter-Altering questions the meaning of material and creates a new skin that beautifully fuses conventional materials.

Bio

Zhuolin Liu’s interest in fashion has always influenced her creative expressions. Her inspirations and designs reflect her desire and vision for a better future. Her avant-garde womenswear pieces are inspired by meditations on color that intercede with neo-surrealism. Working with holographic material, natural dye or ruffled tulles, Liu’s organic inspired voluminous shapes contrast beautifully with unconventional materials such as medical film. Her enduring designs challenge traditional silhouettes and distort perceptions of how unconventional materials can reinvent the tactile experience.
