Entry Description

SmartLid is a reusable UV-C smart lid that transforms ordinary jars into active, chemical-free food preservation units. Using a 254 nm UV-C LED, it safely inhibits mold and bacteria with under 1 W energy. Made from recycled ABS and bio-based silicone, it promotes reuse and circular design. Modular, waterproof, and sensor-controlled, SmartLid extends food freshness while fostering sustainable habits and reducing household waste through clean, efficient technology.SmartLid aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Bio

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Gürsu is an internationally acclaimed designer, illustrator, and thinker whose work bridges creativity, sustainability, and innovation. Recognized among the world’s leading figures in industrial design, he has received more than 240 prestigious international design awards across 18 years, making him one of the most awarded designers globally. As the founder of Designnobis, a multidisciplinary design and innovation consultancy based in Turkey, he has led pioneering projects ranging from furniture, consumer electronics, and packaging to energy systems and transportation.
