Parkwood Springs, a 30.5-hectare former landfill in Sheffield, is reimagined through the “Fifth Ecology”—a framework transforming post-industrial land into a community landscape of ecological succession and sensory renewal. The design integrates topography, wind, and planting to shape evolving smellscapes, turning odours into anchors of memory and identity. Meadows, woodlands, and a recycling garden create inclusive spaces where ecology, heritage, and community converge.
