Dales Of Derby is located in the world-class mountain biking region of Derby, northeast Tasmania, Australia. Sleeping groups of up to 24 people, the lighting scheme enhances a series of varied experiences. The gable roof suggests a link to local mining, forestry and farming history, calling to mind utilitarian timber slab huts or farm sheds. The building is separated into pieces and strung out across the hill between road and river. Gaps are framing moments of forest while nighttime gable lighting castes a permanent golden hue to greying timber walls; a glowing memory of the raw timber cut.
Philip M Dingemanse is an award winning Australian architecture and design studio located in Tasmania.
