Entry Description

The Hangang River once served as a lived and occupied space for the people of Seoul. Islands like Bamseom provided fertile ground, fisheries, and communities directly tied to the rhythms of the river. This intimate relationship was ruptured in the 1960s with the destruction of Bamseom. Its remnants used to build Mapo Bridge, the river shifted from a place of dwelling to a mere passage. This project reimagines the under-bridge space of Mapo Bridge as a pedestrian bridge, restoring the lost relationship between the river, the city, and its people.
