Entry Description

Powerhouse Company revitalized the iconic brutalist student center by postwar Dutch architect Hugh Maaskant, transforming it into a vibrant mixed-use development. The addition of the BunkerTower residential high-rise and the creation of BunkerPark breathe new life into the site. The original structure is carefully restored with concrete, glass, and wood, and thoughtfully contrasted with natural stone. The new volume was added in collaboration with authorities, balancing preservation with necessary changes. The result is a unified, layered design that honors the building’s original grandeur.
