Entry Description

Humanity’s Noose pays tribute to the centenary closure of the Old Melbourne Gaol, and the last hanging. Constructed from recycled and recyclable plastic, the design draws inspiration from the panopticon architectural style of the former goal exercise yard to reveal a playful open space that unveils levels of discomfort and anxiety the further patrons explore the space, which is achieved through the use of scale, emphasis, colour, light, and form. Combining feature lighting with mirror reflections drastically transforms the space from day to night, reshaping the atmospheric mood of the exhibit.
