Prize(s)Silver in Small Scale & Installations Architecture Designs / Movable structures
Entry Description

The project is located on a coastline continually eroded by seawater. The roots of trees are essential to resisting erosion. Thus, the buildings are scattered among the gaps between the trees, to reduce the impact of the project on the ecology and offset the impact of flooding from climate change. Varying floor heights help researchers better understand the trees within the ecosystem. All the buildings consist of open corridors and "breathing” walls which efficiently absorb sunlight and circulate air. The structure uses locally sourced wood which is advantageous for its carbon sequestration.
