An innovative adaptive re-use design, Woods Bagot has 
transformed the upper ground level of Paramount House 
into a tailored shared workspace, celebrating traditional 
joinery and artisan skills while honouring the building’s 
heritage. Blending typologies, the space is connection 
enabling, melding a sense of domesticity and hospitality 
with a high level of professional service. Located on the 
fringe of Sydney’s CBD within the creative district of Surry 
Hills, the project provides 22 handcrafted timber office 
suites across the 300sqm floorplate. Spatial planning 
metrics of the modules was key to fulfilling the brief. 
Comprising a refined interiors scheme, American Cherry is 
paired with tan leather, stone and brass signalling the 
transition between old and new. Recognising the original 
fabric of the building, its reinterpretation has offered a 
simultaneously functional and aesthetically unique shared 
working experience, presenting a new paradigm for how 
we work, who we work with and the future of work.
