Students are to design a single cover subway poster.
Students are expected to blend type and imagery and
create an engaging and provocative single image which
visually illustrates the poem. Students are encouraged to
research and implement meaningful imagery or just pure
text.
The poster represents a poem written by Jim Morrison. It
explores the idea of motion, and how objects go from a
state of rest to action. Nature is a strong theme
throughout the poem, and immediately brings about
visual imagery. The poster reflects the “explosion of
birds,” with a strong diagonal movement. Dramatic
contrast complements the energy of the imagery, while
repetition, collage work, and watercolor effects occupy
the core of the poster and add dimensionality.
