Hechai 1972 is the first urban cultural space in China transformed from a former prison site.After the prison relocated in 2018, the Hechai complex was left vacant. In 2019, Hefei launched an urban renewal initiative, giving birth to Hechai 1972. Hechai 1972 not only focuses on preserving and restoring the original industrial heritage but also seeks innovative ways to repurpose it.
