Opticane is an IoT-based cane designed to support visually impaired individuals worldwide.
With its sensors and AI-driven voice command system, this smart cane offers enhanced navigation guidance through haptic feedback and audio cues. The built-in camera converts visual data into voice, assisting users in daily scenarios such as shopping, money management, and public transportation.
By leveraging advanced technology and fostering social connections, Opticane goes beyond being a simple navigation tool; it actively promotes a more inclusive and diverse community.
Fahimeh Sarrafian is a designer and MFA candidate in Industrial Design at the University of Tehran. She builds products from evidence, turning interviews, patents, and competitor benchmarks into working prototypes, with manufacturability treated as a constraint she designs inside rather than a problem solved after the form is fixed. Her work spans medical devices, assistive technology, and sustainable consumer products. Guided by evidence and iteration, she views design as a process of continuous learning that transforms ideas into meaningful, lasting solutions.
