Self-Revealing

This project is a meditation hideaway situated in a hectic city, for users to undergo the practice of mindfulness, inspired by the Buddhist notion, “Form does not differ from emptiness; therefore, emptiness does not differ from form, “. Imagining the consciousness is distorted and capricious, the interior is shaped with continuous Bezier surfaces from wall to ceiling. A LED oculus recessed in the core of non-linear space, the site is visually intuitive, inspiring the meditator’s introspection to probe into the intricacy of the relationship between physical and mental situations.

The architect, Li-Yu Cheng, is a lecturer of Architecture Department in Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan. To fulfill ambitions toward modernist architectures and contemporary spatial design, in 2010, Li-Yu Cheng founded Studio X4 at a multi-cultural city, Taipei, where the teams dedicating to urban languages and interdisciplinary studies toward both exterior and interior spatial design.
