Lars Ø Ramberg – “Thinker Doer”

Berlin-based conceptual artist Lars Ø Ramberg is participating in this year’s International Design Award with a talk about his projects and experiences. He has represented Norway at prestigious venues such as the Venice Biennale and the São Paulo Biennale. In Germany, he is known for Palace of Doubt, and in Oslo, his current projects include TILLIT at Økern, Liberté in front of the Parliament, and BRAINSTORM at the Deichman Library.

Ramberg challenges traditional views of the artist’s role and defines his practice as a combination of creative intelligence (Artist Intelligence) and an entrepreneurial approach to large-scale projects. His creativity is a dynamic process that draws insights from both intellect and emotion—in contrast to artificial intelligence, which is data-driven.

Ramberg’s interdisciplinary method and his use of design as Ready-Made transcend conventions and create new spaces for art and design as trust-building infrastructures.

The Oslo City Artist Award 2022 was awarded to Ramberg for his outstanding contribution to visual and installation art. The jury noted that his work evokes “wonder, astonishment, and often controversy—but never indifference.”

Ramberg’s experiences offer new perspectives in today’s turbulent political landscape. Can art and design contribute to greater dialogue and deeper understanding?
