Entry Description

Sound-Aesthetics designed a modular functional artwork-system that can be configured into a premium wireless audio-system and a noise-damping system.

The product responds to two key insights —

• First, the appearance and impact of most existing audio equipment are not given thoughtful consideration
• Second, the experience of architectural spaces is multi-sensory: it is not only what we see, but also what we hear, sense and feel

Our solution is a compact, elegant system that helps to improve room acoustics and offers very high-quality music reproduction when simply placed against a wall.

Bio

I’m the founder and principal-designer of Sound-Aesthetics. I was born in South Africa to Dutch parents. My main formal training is as a Chartered Accountant, but I pursued a portfolio-career, with many side-projects in photography, architecture, audio, and industrial design — and these continue to fascinate.

I believe that good design is the product of travel, reflection and experimentation. My immigration-roots, autodidactic nature, broad interests, and many travels around the world, helped to shape my view of the world (and on how it could be improved).

Awards and Prize

The products were longlisted for the Dezeen Awards 2020 for Product design.
