Entry Description

Coloured pencil drawing on 300 grams Arches satin paper, size 56 x 76 cm. The woman portrayed in the work is in pain, but not necessary in physical pain. The geometry sprouting from her back is a reflection of her inner struggle, like she is giving birth to something. The three dimensional geometry juxtaposes the two dimensional space by revealing or deleting parts of her body. The latter, this negative space, touches upon concepts like death and memory. Where a void becomes a fluid transition to something new, to the unknown. The woman in the drawing looks backwards, showing her awareness of the past. It shows who she is, how her past constructed the architecture of her being.
The work is inspired a lot by traditional Japanese prints, both in colour and style.
