Entry Description

When designing the Hapimag Resort Hamburg’s 41 holiday apartments, JOI-Design was inspired by the artistic vibrancy that permeates the site’s location amongst the historic, brick-clad warehouses that flank the Alster River’s canals.
Hanseatic chic is juxtaposed with rough, harbour flair: design classics, handcrafted accents, and refined textiles woven from natural fibres sit alongside rugged ropes, nautical motifs, and vintage oak floors, resulting in a cosy yet modern haven that avoids pastiche.
Yellow port hole “frames” above the reception desk enliven the lobby’s anthracite and grey palette, while pendant lights hung from anchored ropes and a table crafted from repurposed timber shipping boxes add industrial touches.
Designed with soothing shades of navy blue and grey, the apartments feature brass-trimmed steamer trunks for storage and tripod floor lamps that recall sailors’ astronomical devices. Bespoke, hand-painted tiles in the kitchens and a rope swing used as a bedroom nightstand charmingly interpret hanseatic culture.
