Although 'empty' is perhaps the most convenient descriptive term that can be employed upon encountering this studio—as is the case when all programmatic functions from day-to-day food preparation to eating to sleeping are all hidden in their dedicated encasements when not in use—the unhampered line of vision becomes poetic in its affordance of tranquillity taken in at one go.
Certainly such a space—especially given its diminutive size of 25 sqm—can be argued to be a premium in this day and age where the evermore pervasive digital technologies threaten to overcome one’s peace?
Informed by the continued dialogue that cuts across various specialisations, methodologies and research, louta et al. hopes at arriving at a practice of design that is neither this-nor-that—as a homecoming of sorts to precisely that indeterminate place that embodies the Japanese 境界 (kyokai) or the Filipino liminal.
Spearheaded by individuals that see their roles as uncompromising co-creators, designs are defined as a discreet curation of intentional detailing: structured but also improvisational in the care for nuances any project inherently possesses.
